Third Annual Summit of First Ladies & Gentlemen

Through her work as the Chair of SCLAN, H.E. Rossana Briceño partnered with UNFPA to support the revision of the Health and Family Life Education (HFLE) at the primary school level in Belize. Since this curriculum has not been revised since 2006, this revision process helped to ensure that the HFLE was updated to reflect the current reality of Belize.

This initiative was completed through the hiring of a qualified consultant to identify gaps in the current version of the curriculum through the facilitation of consultations and validation sessions, and drafting and finalizing the revised Health and Family Life Education Curriculum based on recommendations received from stakeholders.

The achievement of this initiative was important to ensure the relevancy of the information to today’s society, to appropriately address social needs and dilemmas, to allow professional teachers to adopt the curriculum in its entirety to be taught holistically in the classroom, and to scale up Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) information and access to in school youths.
