$30,000 Donated to Belize Cancer Society

On Friday, March 28, 2025, The Office of the Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children, held the official handing over of $30,000 to the Belize Cancer Society to assist women in need of CT scans for cervical cancer treatment.

This donation will offer financial support for women in need of CT scans, an essential step in diagnosing and treating cervical cancer. Through this initiative, Dr. Ramoncito Yacab, Oncologist at Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), will work along with the Belize Cancer Society to ensure that women in need are referred for CT scans, helping them access the necessary care for their treatment.

The Belize Cancer Society is committed to continue its support of cancer patients to alleviate the burdens associated with cancer diagnosis. Belize Cancer Society through advocacy, education, and financial assistance remains committed to improving access to early detection, treatment, and support services.

In Belize, cervical cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women, and early detection is crucial for enhancing survival rates. With the help from the Office of the Special Envoy, the Belize Cancer Society, and healthcare professionals such as Dr. Yacab will ensure that women have access to life-saving medical services.

Referral Protocol for Women Diagnosed with Cervical Cancer via Dr. Yacab at Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) Requiring Further Diagnostic Scans:

1. Initial Consultation & Referral

A patient diagnosed with cervical cancer by Dr. Yacab at KHMH is identified as requiring additional diagnostic scans for staging and receives a referral form.

2. Cost Estimation for Diagnostic Scans

The patient obtains an estimated cost for the required scans from the relevant department at KHMH.

3. Submission to Belize Cancer Society (BCS)

The patient presents the estimated cost, along with the referral form to Belize Cancer Society for review and processing.

4. Issuance of Purchase Order

Upon verification, Belize Cancer Society issues a purchase order to KHMH covering the estimated cost of the scans.

5. Final Billing from KHMH

After conducting the scans, KHMH issues the final bill based on actual service costs incurred.

6. Payment Processing

Belize Cancer Society settles the final bill using funds donated by the Special Envoy for Women and Children.

7. Continuation of Care

Once the scans are completed and paid for, the patient receives further medical advice and treatment planning from Dr. Yacab.
